Craft Update – June 29, 2016

Okay. It’s been a long time since I’ve updated crafty stuff. In my defense, there have been other things in life taking priority for me lately.

If you’ve been keeping up here, you know I’ve written a few posts about T1D. Trying to advocate for change, and also trying to educate a few of the masses.

But, this is a crafty post, so let me get to that.

For my local SC people, I am actually putting myself out there and going to a market on July 9th. It’s the first time I’ve done this, so I’m a little nervous, but there is a first time for everything, right?

I’ve been posting about it on my Etsy Facebook page, and have been teasing about pictures for a week or so, and since I am keeping up with school well at the moment, I took some time to snap some pictures.

First, something that will not be for sale, this was a project I made for myself. There was a problem at first, I teased you all with a WIP picture a couple months ago. Well, I was about halfway through the first panel when I realized that my gauge was WAY off. Not just a little off, but it was about half the size it was supposed to be.  So, I ripped it all apart, made gauge swatches until five (yes FIVE) hook sizes later, it was there. But, in the end, this wrap turned out lovely, truly.

I learned several things with it, including how complicated it can be to carry yarn up the side and how tangled it can get.

Now, on to the preview for the market…

Scarves. Double knit on a loom in a lovely light weight yarn that stripes beautifully.

Another scarf, also loom knit, I found in a bag, presumably that I was going to list on Etsy that I never got around to.

Two grocery bag holders, a fun project I learned, they have elastic on both ends, and a tie at the top to hang.

Lastly, different styles of dishcloths. This is the main focus the past week or so, they are fairly quick and easy to make, and are made in cotton yarn. My favorite pattern is the top middle, it is a waffle stitch that feels very nubby so it will be good for scrubbing.

Still more to do, and finishing touches to do (yes I have ends that need to be run under) but all in all I’m having fun prepping for this market.

Keep smiling everybody!!

Weekly (hopefully) Craft Update – March 2, 2015

Okay! First and foremost I apologize for my long absence. I have been working just not been updating all of you!

I have more motivation to update you all more regularly again. I have started a new big cross stitch project! I’m excited about this one, it’s going to be gorgeous I think. I was reminded why I love presorted kits though. Here are some pictures of prep…

Gotta love it when you have five shades of peach and colors called “darkest grey green” lol.

I officially started stitching this past Tuesday, the 24th of February, so here is my first week of progress, which I am quite pleased.

It is done on evenweave which I haven’t done a lot on before, but I am getting used to it.

I have been busy with other things, most of which can be found on my Etsy site (see about me for that link). Here is some of it.

This last big mass of purple is something I love.

It’s warm and soft and perfect for cold nights, and the sleeves are mid arm so perfect to wear while working on other things!

I think that’s everything! Oh, I have gotten everything together for my next portable crochet project and as DS is getting ready for the final ballet production of the season, I should have some work on that to show in the next week or two.

Keep smiling everybody!

Weekly Craft Update – November 3, 2014

Hi everybody!

I took last week off, as it was my birthday week, as well as Dracula week for DS and I with the ballet.

But, I did get some things done in the past couple of weeks. First, I mounted and framed the two small cross stitches I completed and got them on Etsy. Here is how they came out:

The bag I had been working on, is to the side at the moment. I ran out of yarn, so it will be something that I will probably redo at some point, but, as I am in the middle of the crunch of Christmas crafting, it can wait.

As I mentioned though, my birthday was last Monday and my wonderful daddy keeps an eye on my Amazon wish list lol, so these showed up for my birthday. First one I pulled out is another Dimensions gold series, of a cabin and the auroras. I took a picture of the back of the package because I am very excited that it came with all the colors pre sorted! That will save me nearly a day of work lol.

Second kit I pulled out I’m really excited about. I love Leonardo da Vinci, and I have a version of the painting in my house that my daddy and his mom, my grandmother, did from a paint by number kit many many years ago already so I think this will be great. Also excited that this one came presorted as well lol.

Lastly is a Christmas present I am working on. If any of my family is reading this, please be surprised if you open anything you see here on Christmas morning lol. I have had the Martha Stewart crafts loom knitting kit for a while, it’s fantastic because one kit gives you several sizes and gauges for loom knitting. So, I’ve been wanting to do a project like this with it for a while, since straight needle knitting is difficult for me. I am very slow and have issues with tension because my left hand is significantly weaker than my right after two wrist surgeries. Hence, why I crochet a lot more than I knit lol. But, I’m hoping loom knitting will be the answer to that. Here is what I have done so far. It’s about half a scarf…

Whew! I think that gets you mostly caught up on the crafting side of my life. I may have to do another life as a dance mom post soon lol.

Until then, keep smiling everybody!!

Weekly Craft Update – March 31, 2014

Big update for you guys this week. Lots of craft related stuff I wanted to show off today. I’ve been snapping pictures like mad the past 15 minutes so I can show it all off to you.

First, is a book I picked up at Walmart a few weeks ago. Amigurumi is something that has fascinated me for a while now, and I already have the supplies for a HUGE project I will tackle eventually, but, I also wanted some practice with some scrap yarn, and this seemed perfect for that.

Next is the second scarf from the first Hook and Needle club kit I received. I haven’t started it yet, but will probably pick a weekend and just whip it together.

In the mail today, I got the next kit. “Learn a stitch dishcloths”. I’m excited about this one. I’ve made some hand towels already from cotton yarn before, and want to slowly replace store bought towels and things with my handmade ones, so this will get me moving in the right direction.

I also picked up some magazines this weekend. Love of Crochet, Spring 2014; Crochet Today February/March 2014; and Crochet World “Fun with color in thread” Spring 2014.

Loads of things I'm excited for in these, but these three are probably the top:

Now, my favorite secret crochet tool, I got this years ago, and now that I am wanting to learn lace and tatting, there is a similar set with the smaller steel hooks. Two handles, multiple tips and even a loom knitting tool all in one handy zippered case.

Last but not least, the moment you have all been waiting for… The progress on my cross stitch. I have found a way to made it more portable, but also, since it was a cold and wet weekend here I had a lot of time I could sit and stitch. I’m really pleased with the progress this week, I hope you enjoy looking and thanks for putting up with such a long winded post! Smile everyone!
